Arrange A, B, C and D once each in four slots. A is before B. B is before D. C cannot use slot 1 or slot 4. There are exactly two valid schedules:
- A → B → C → D
- A → C → B → D
A must be first and D must be last. C takes one of the two middle slots, so the before clues force the endpoints.
C could be in slot 2 or slot 3. Keep both schedules rather than guessing one.
B cannot be in slot 4, because D must come after B.

How this data is usedHelp
Read each arrangement from left to right. “Before” can leave other items between; “next to” means immediately adjacent. A gap clue gives the exact number of items between two items. Check every clue: each puzzle has one unique solution.
Select one of five answers, then choose Check. You can change your selection before checking. Read the explanation and continue when ready. Keyboard: Tab to the answers and use the arrow keys to change your choice.
Solving time excludes setup, explanations and background tabs. The optional challenge gives you two minutes of solving time across six questions. When time runs out, unanswered questions count as incorrect. Timed and untimed results stay separate.
The browser loads a complete six-question round from the server when you start or restart. Completed rounds and timed-out challenges are saved when browser storage is available; ending early is not saved. Your individual answers are not uploaded.
This is a practice activity, not a standardized or diagnostic assessment. Results describe only this activity.
Each session uses one slot, with no gaps or overlaps. Use every session once. Slot 1 is earliest. “Could” means at least one valid schedule; “must” means every valid schedule; “cannot” means none. A complete order is not always forced. Apply each clue, but keep every arrangement that still works. A single valid example proves “could”; a single counterexample disproves “must”.
