Use both views
These examples use a two-by-two base and stacks up to three cubes high, built from the ground with no gaps. Each filled top square holds a stack. The front view shows the tallest stack in each column of the top grid. The labels mark the front and back of the figure.
Find the height of each row
The left column has a stack only at the back, so that stack must be three cubes high. The right column is one cube high from the front, so both of its stacks are one cube high. From the right, the front row is one cube high and the back row is three. Read the right view from front on the left to back on the right.
Try a different footprint
Now there is one stack at the front left and one at the back right. Use the front view to find each stack’s height. Then choose the right view, with the front on the left and the back on the right.
