Mira takes the last bus home every night. The bus comes at eleven. She works at a small hotel. She cleans the front desk before she leaves.
The driver is an old man named Bo. He knows her face. He waits two minutes when she is late. He never says why. He just looks at the door and holds the bus.
One night, Mira runs to the stop. She is very late. The bus is not there. She sits on the bench and feels tired. Then she sees lights. The bus comes back around the corner. Bo opens the door. "I went around the block," he says. "Two times." Mira gets in. She does not know the right words, so she only says thank you. Bo nods. The bus moves.
Outside, the shops are dark and the street is wet. Mira looks at the window. She can see her own face in the glass. She is smiling. It is a small thing, she thinks. A bus that waits. But a small thing can make a hard day feel light.
