A small decision

At the café, Arun put his phone face down on the table. When it buzzed, he glanced at it but did not pick it up. His daughter was describing her first day at work. He moved the phone into his coat pocket and asked her to start again.

What does Arun’s last action suggest?

Show the answer

He decides to give his daughter his attention. Asking her to start again suggests that he missed part of what she said. Moving the phone out of sight supports this interpretation.
