Name the ink

Choose the color of the letters, even when the word names another color.

The ink decides the answer

BLUE
The word and its ink agree here.

Each word has two properties: what it says and the color it is printed in. The Stroop practice asks for the ink color.

Here BLUE is printed in blue. Both properties agree, but the rule is still to name the ink. The answer buttons use color names, not colored swatches.

The ink decides the answer

Each word has two properties: what it says and the color it is printed in. The Stroop practice asks for the ink color.

Here BLUE is printed in blue. Both properties agree, but the rule is still to name the ink. The answer buttons use color names, not colored swatches.

BLUE
The word and its ink agree here.

Keep the rule when they disagree

This word says BLUE, but the letters are red. Choose Red. Reading the word aloud would give the wrong answer for this task.

Use the same ink rule on matching and mismatched words. You do not need to switch rules when the word changes.

BLUE
BLUE in red ink: the answer is Red.

Look at the letters, not their meaning

The word and ink disagree again. Identify the color of the letters, then select that color name below.

RED
Which color are these letters printed in?

Try it

Which answer names the ink color?

  1. Red
  2. Blue
Show the answer

Blue

Correct. The ink is blue. The word RED supplies the competing color name, but it does not change what the task asks you to report.
