Follow the shape, not the side

Each shape has a fixed response. At level 1, circle means Left and square means Right. Read the shape, then choose its assigned response.

A shape can appear on either side of the center marker. Its position does not change the key. Here the circle appears on the left and its assigned response is also Left.

The key stays visible throughout the practice. You can check it whenever you need, and the Left and Right buttons stay in the same places.

Now the circle appears on the right. The response is still Left because the key assigns Left to the circle. Choose the shape’s response, even when its position points you toward the other button.

At level 2, triangle also means Left and diamond means Right. Level 3 adds hexagon for Left and cross for Right. The responses for shapes you already know stay unchanged.

Each round has twenty-four trials, balanced between matching and opposing positions. You choose when to answer; there is no response deadline.

A square appears on the left. Use the same level 1 key: circle means Left, square means Right. Which response belongs to this shape?

Name the shape before choosing a response. The left-hand position is something to ignore here; the square’s assignment decides the answer.

This is self-paced practice with a shape key and distracting positions. Its accuracy and active time describe your round; they do not measure the laboratory Simon effect.
