Specify the move
A translation slides every point by the same vector. A reflection flips a figure across a line. A rotation turns every point through the same angle around a fixed center. These three moves preserve lengths and angles.
For a 90° counterclockwise rotation around the origin O, (x, y) becomes (−y, x). The point A(2, 1) becomes A′(−1, 2). The solid triangle shows the new position; the dashed triangle shows the original.
A quarter turn changes position while preserving lengths.
