Earlier updates

What changed on the site, newest first. Each line is one change you would notice: a new practice, a lesson, a language or a fix. QuickenBrain opened on September 8, 2026.

  • 23 new practices.
  • 23 new lessons.
  • Grid arithmetic and Letter path now have lessons in Korean, Spanish, French, Japanese, German and Brazilian Portuguese. Letter path uses native words and the board shape from each practice.
  • Match the cube level 9 links to a lesson on following a mark as its face folds and turns, with examples in all seven site languages.
  • Mental math explanations now describe missing-number methods more accurately, and addition stories use book collections that fit larger quantities.

  • New practice: Grid arithmetic.
  • New lesson: Scan, then compute.
  • Number sequence puzzles has two more formats in English. Number grid: each column follows its own rule, and you type the whole bottom row. Two sequences: two sequences take turns in one row, and you type the number that comes next. The review gives each rule in words and the next two numbers.
  • Cube nets, Match the cube, levels 1 to 8: the answer is now the cube the net folds into. Until now these levels marked its mirror image as the answer. Rounds played before keep their own statistics.
  • Cube nets has a harder Match the cube level in all seven languages, Oriented marks: a triangle, a half-shaded square and a diagonal line turn with their faces as the net folds, and the four cubes differ only in how one mark is turned.
  • During a timed set, the practice page now calls the round a Timed set that the server is timing, in the same words as Fastest perfect set on Today, and no longer says gold.
  • Every lesson and every grammar rule now opens in one card with Learn, Example, Try and Summary tabs, the picture beside the text on a wide screen, Back and Next under it, and a short Summary with a button to its practice. A lesson you started opens where you left it, and a rule shows the rules beside it from the start.
  • Members now keep their history and progress on every device they sign in on: saved rounds, Today's sets, lessons, the review notebook, the rock pile and practice settings. The account page shows when this device last synced and has a Sync now button.
  • In Make 24, undo and Start this deal again now work after a deal is done: taking back a solved deal opens it again until you make 24 once more, and a skipped or shown deal stays as it was.
  • A training log: each practice's statistics page lists the levels you have played, with rounds, best score, best tempo and the day you cleared each (two rounds in a row with at least 5 of 6 right and no hint), Progress shows the level you are on and the levels you have cleared, and 38 practices, among them Mental rotation, Digit span, Stroop, Gears and Missing pattern, say so under the score on the round that clears one.

  • A Grammar book on the Library shelf: 41 common English mistakes, each with the rule in plain words and wrong and right examples, grouped as verbs, nouns and articles, describing words, choosing words, sentences, and punctuation and spelling. Rules you save or start show under Continue reading.
  • Reading passages: all 651 passages from the reading practices, each on its own page with its questions and their explanations, listed by level and by topic. A pace mode on each passage times a read at a pace you choose, from 150 to 400 words per minute, then asks the same questions and shows your words per minute and your score.
  • A rock pile: each day you finish a round of any practice adds a rock, and a day with every answer right in Today's set adds a gold nugget. Progress shows the pile, and Today and the home page show the last 30 days. The streak now counts days in a row with a rock.
  • The home page starts with today's practice: the day's three practices, a button into the set, and how many of the three you have done today.
  • A rock pile: each day you finish a round of any practice adds a rock, and a day with every answer right in Today's set adds a gold nugget. Progress shows the pile. The streak now counts days in a row with a rock.
  • The home page is one hero with today's set: the day's three practices, one button to start them, and the cube to try.
  • After a round from Today's set, the result says how many of the three you have done and offers the next one, then today's result, as its main button. The timed part of Today is now called Fastest perfect set and says plainly that the fastest set is only named on the page until the next day.
  • Library books, the Guides book too, now show 12 cards a page with the same page buttons as Practice, and a lesson takes you back to the page you left.
  • On eight practice pages, How this works now shows one line under the practice. Open it to read the rest, and it stays open the next time you visit.
  • The other notes under a practice, such as How to play on the chimp test or the questions on reaction time, now also show one line each. Open one to read the rest.
  • The Guides book on the Library shelf opens like the subject books: each guide is a card with a picture, its reading time and the practice it goes with, and guides you save or start show under Continue reading.
  • A lesson or guide you started now leaves Continue reading in the Library after 30 days without being opened. Saved ones stay.
  • A review notebook: a question you get wrong in a practice from Today's set comes back on the new Review page after 1 day, then 3 days, then 7 days. Progress shows how many are due today. The notebook stays in your browser, and the Privacy page lists what it keeps.
  • In Tangram, a faint copy of the piece you drag shows where it will click in, and a piece that cannot go in stays where you let go.
  • Twelve Challenge tangram figures have new names that say what the shape looks like.
  • Cube counting has a third mode, Exposed faces: count the cubes in a painted stack with exactly a given number of painted faces, in the format of the Dental Admission Test.
  • Mirror images has two more modes: Lines of symmetry, and Complete the figure, where you fill in the other half of a figure on a grid.
  • Word ladder in Korean, Japanese, Spanish and French, with its lesson. The ladders still use English words.
  • Two new guides: how to find the line that answers each kind of reading question, and reading speed with the pacer. Each has four worked examples from the site's own passages.
  • Sudoku, Calcudoku, Word ladder, River crossing puzzles, Turn the cube, Turn the pyramid and Cube Nets fit a phone screen again.
  • Today's practice can pick one winner a day. Play for today's gold, sign in with an email code, and the server checks every answer and times every round.
  • A new guide works through one example of each spatial question type in the Dental Admission Test, and the mental rotation guide now has four worked examples.
  • The spatial reasoning tests guide now links Exposed faces for the Dental Admission Test's cube counting question, and the mental rotation guide answers six questions people ask.
  • Mental rotation's result now says when a score is no more than pressing the same answer every time would get.
  • Paper folding explains each fold and unfold in shorter, plainer English sentences.
  • In Cross sections, answering keeps the verdict and Next question on the screen, and the English directions are plainer.
  • Turn the cube says Solved under the cube and holds it for a moment before the next scramble.
  • Turn the pyramid shows larger colour letters on its stickers, and says Solved under the pyramid before the next mix.
  • In Angle ranking, the fourth pick brings Check order on screen, and checking keeps Next question in view when it fits.
  • Cube counting no longer says 1 cubes in its painted faces explanation, and on a wide screen Next figure stays in view after an answer.
  • Cube nets says before you start that one mark is on two squares of each net.
  • In Cube nets, Match the cube shows a target where it showed a cross, because a cross on a slanted cube face looked like a plus. Its help names all six marks.
  • Cube views says under each figure which side the top or front view is read from.
  • Gears writes each gear's speed and direction on one line in its table, and explains the gears in between in plainer words.
  • Keyholes, Shape assembly and Spatial orientation keep the answer you press in place. Hidden figures now shows where the figure was hidden. The Jigsaw board and tray fit on a desktop screen. Cube moves explains its move letters during a question.
  • Practice pages now arrive already laid out and fetch their font sooner, so Start and the practice stay where they first appear while the page loads. Next question no longer jumps after an answer. In Gears, Perspective taking, Cube moves and the other six-question practices the question and its figure stay on screen while you review your answer, and the next question opens on screen. With larger text set in your browser, every line of a practice page now grows with it.

  • The practice list now starts with spatial practices, then named tests and puzzles.
  • Save and Language moved into the header row of each practice, so titles keep their full width.
  • Note reading plays the note you are reading, and a button lets you hear it before you answer.
  • In Mental rotation, Cube counting and Cube views, you can turn the shapes after you answer.
  • The home page shows one lesson book from each of three Library subjects, and a newsletter sign-up.
  • About now says who makes the site and how the practices are made. This updates page is new.

  • Four new guides: the chimp test, the Tower of Hanoi, the go/no-go test and the cognitive reflection test.
  • Chimp test, Eight queens puzzle and Make 24 in Japanese and Korean, with their lessons.

  • Spanish, French and Japanese, starting with Mental rotation, Reaction time, Visual memory and Sequence memory.
  • Visual memory and Sequence memory in Korean.
  • A list of practices in each language.
